The annual meeting of the Wythougan Valley Preservation Council, Inc. is scheduled for October 4th at 5:30 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League Clubhouse in Argos. The clubhouse is located east of Argos on 16th Road, between Hawthorne and Hickory Roads, north of State Road 10. The evening will include a chili supper, presentations of the Daniel McDonald Award for Preservation, and a program that will highlight several aspects of the clubhouse that was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you have ever wondered how the early conservation movement left its mark on Marshall County, or about New Deal-era projects, or the unique stonework in the Argos community, you will not want to miss this program. Cost of the supper and program is $10.00 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Argos Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the Wythougan Fund of the Marshall County Community Foundation. If you plan to attend, please call 574-936-0613.
Wythougan will also be hosting an open house at Summit School in Tippecanoe Township on October 5th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Please join us for fall refreshments and organ music at the one room schoolhouse located at the top of the hill on State Road 10, one mile east of State Road 331.

We hope to continue to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and promoting our pledge: “To strive for the purity of water, the clarity of air, and the wise stewardship of the land and its resources; to know the beauty and understanding of nature and the value of wildlife, woodlands and open space; to the preservation of this heritage and to man’s sharing in it.”
In October 2011, the Argos Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America was on the agenda of the Indiana Historic Preservation Review Board. The League submitted an application to be considered by the board to be recognized as one of Indiana’s historic places. The submission is available for review on the IN.GOV website here. The Argos Chapter of the IWLA, referred to locally as the ‘Argos Ikes’, was approved to be on the National Register of Historic Places. Being that the original Argos Chapter League formed in the early 1920s, the chapter has deep roots educating the surrounding communities in the importance of conservation. The National Park Service, NPS.GOV, highlighted the Argos Chapter of the Izaak Walton League in one of its weekly highlights. Check-out the highlight available on the NPS.GOV website by clicking here. The publication includes beautiful pictures of the club and one of the ponds in addition to providing information about the history of the local League.
Elections were held at the meeting held Sunday, December 2, 2012 and the results are in…

Word is around the club house this week…
We received word that we have been accepted to the National Historical Registry. Sarah Bagley gladly donated the Christmas decorations for the club. The Dec. 3rd meeting sounds like a good time to put the tree up and the trimmings on . Merry Christmas everyone!
Today, the Historical Society stopped in to see if we can put together a nice write-up for our 75 Years of Conservation Celebration. We need to get with the town of Argos to see about the big 4th of July celebration. Smell the grills ?? :} I have talked to Webster Elem. in Plymouth about our clubs tree giveaway . 4th grade is a go! An additional 7o some students we can talk to about our goals and conservation projects and what trees mean.
